The Voortrekker Monument Heritage Site in Pretoria has challenging cycling trails which may be used by the public. The Voortrekker Monument was built in 1949 to commemorate the culture of the nineteenth century Voortrekkers. On a clear day the monument can be seen from as far away as Krugersdorp. The mountain bike trails accommodate all levels from competition style, novice to intermediate. It is possible to cycle circuits of under 3km and over 10km in the nature reserve and surrounding the Monument. The mountain biking route is predominantly jeep track but you may be diverted by some technical singletrack paths.
Road-bikers and hybrid-cyclists are also welcome to come and exercise on the more than 10 km of tarred roads on the Voortrekker Monument site. All the routes start at the Voortrekker Monument parking area, where you can safely park your vehicle before taking a trail. The lower slopes are wooded, while the upper slopes are more exposed.
Trail Distance:
± 3 to 10km, self determined
Requirements:
Helmet, Water & Sunblock
